Hoop Houses/Low Tunnels at Seasons Eatings Farm

There are stakes in the ground to hold the sides in place while the hoop is being put together.  You can see the right side perlin on one of the hoops.  A ridgepole was added at the top and another purlin added to the left side.

The baseboards are 1" x 6".  The hoops are 25' long.  We used scrap wood to connect the baseboards.

We made a mistake when we didn't use rebar inside the conduit.  That would have given it more stability under heavy snow.

Different hoop but same damage.  Heavy snow weighed down the poly and made the frame lean.  At one point it was almost collapsed.  (to the right you can see a little of my permanent greenhouse and a couple of Bourbon Red turkeys)

These hoops are made to be moved once a year.  In the fall you pull the hoop over fall/winter greens that are already growing.  In the spring you either turn those greens into the soil or pull them to be composted.  Then you plant the warm weather crops.  I use mine for tomatoes, eggplant and peppers.

I didn't get a picture of how the poly is held on.  You can use either wiggle wire or simply tack it down with "1 x 3' boards.  This one is tacked down with 1 x 3.
